GOOGLE TRENDS - TOP HORROR TRENDS
SLASHER
Google Trends shows how 'slasher horror', which is the genre that our film should be fitting in to, has only really been widely talked about since mid 2007 to now. This may also show how the popularity of such a genre has been increased which may be because of more and more films being brought out that are based on this genre. There is one anomaly. There is a big dip in how people don't search up the slasher genre at all between mid to late 2007 which is confusing as there are searches from late 2007 onwards continuously.
The picture above shows how the recent searches have mostly been around the slasher genre entirely. However, there is also the two other top searches which say the 'best' or 'top' slasher films which show how that people may be wanting to get into this genre more by watching very well-known and impressively made films. Below is where slasher is most interesting in regions, with the UK and the US being the two most popular regions and the UK overall, which is where we live. Slasher is not that common in non-English speaking countries it is worth noting. CS
PARANORMAL
On the contrary, paranormal did not get mentioned much until late 2009, where it starts to skyrocket in terms of searches but a common theme here is that the interest seems to dip a huge amount between 2010 and 2014, with the paranormal interest slowly returning back to little to no interest this year. This could signal the most ideal time to create a paranormal film in an attempt to revive the genre and peak interest again. It is also the oppurtuninty to try something new with paranormal too.
The image above depicts the regional interest of the paranormal genre as of June 2015. As you can see here the genre is most interesting in Mexico or more or less the South American border with Chile second in the list. What's interesting to note here that unlike the Slasher trends, the UK and US do not appear here which is conjoined with the line graph as the genre is losing interest and again, gives us the opportunity to make our film fall into the paranormal genre if we so desired. VAMPIRE
As another possible sub-genre for us to tackle, we researched the trend of the term 'vampire' as of recently. We have discovered that the trend was slim and little was said about it during 2005-2010 but after that, the term started trending a whole lot more, possibly due to a new vampire movie or two sparking the audience's interest. We can see that interest has simmered down as of this year so we believe that our trailer can bring back that interest in the vampire sub-genre of horror if we choose the sub-genre to be more beneficial to us.
By looking at the regional interest of the vampire sub-genre, we have found out that it has most commonly trended in Romania, with the Philippines and Italy not far behind them. It's worthy to note that neither the UK or the US appear on this list which could suggest that the interest in them has died down a lot over here which could give our trailer an even bigger opportunity to regain that interest in vampires, again if we desired.
