Using IMDB for research and planning
We used sites such as IMDB and google trends to research about successful films. when we started to plan for our trailer, we had the genre of slasher in mind, due to our idea being very imaginative, we could not gain actors and a location to film at , so we decided to base our initial idea on our back up idea which was based round the genre of supernatural.
We noticed that the film 'Another Me' had a similar idea to ours as it has the same genre and same style of filming. So we decided to base our trailer on the idea that a supernatural entity was killing people through cameras. this is similar to that of 'Another Me'.

Using Final Cut Pro
Final Cut pro is the software that we used to create and edit our trailer. We had used Final Cut in our AS work in year 12. But back then we had a limited knowledge on the various functions of the software. We only knew things like: simple transitions, ken burns, and special effects. However this year we have learned many new things about final cut, we learned how to distort voice overs and create overlays that are animated, and our editing techniques have developed.
Using Photoshop
Photoshop is a software program developed by Adobe that allows users to edit graphics, it can enhance and manipulate images to improve their overall appearance. its an excellent tool that made editing our poster and magazine cover fairly simple and was very efficient, thus making the overall quality very good. Photoshop consists of many features such as selection tools. Selection tools are one of the most basic functions of photoshop. They let you directly focus one area of an image, in any shape that you wish. you can outline an area and then apply different effects to that particular area. For example you have a portrait of a person standing with a house or sky in the background. You can use the lasso tool to draw an outline directly around that person then alter the clarity or tone of just that persons image. We did attempt this when editing our poster however through evaluation we decided it did not make our poster look, more scary and did not fit with the whole piece.
To create our poster and our magazine cover we used photoshop initially. for our poster all the main editing was done on photoshop. we had only used photoshop for a limited amount of time, so we did not know how o use the software to its fullest potential. However this was not a problem for us, we used YouTube as support to help us use the various features of the software especially when we wanted to manipulating the background.

Using PicMonkey
PicMonkey was only used in the absence of photoshop as we did not have access it at the time, and would not have finished our magazine cover by the deadline, so we decided to use PicMonkey. However it was only used to enhance the colour as we had already done all the aesthetics f our magazine cover on photoshop, bust was unable to manipulate the tone, saturation and colour. Our opinion of PicMonkey is that it is not very useful as it doesn't contain many specific tools that were necessary in editing our magazine cover. And furthermore to unlock all the features of PicMonkey you had to pay. however with limited options of editing tools we were able to enhance and colourise our magazine cover.
Using YouTube
We used YouTube multiple times in creating our products especially when creating our trailer and poster. We used YouTube to watch other trailers such as 'Another Me', we derived ideas from them and added them to our own trailer. When we were creating our poster we were using the software photoshop; we did not have a good understanding of the software and al of its features. So we resorted to finding tutorials on YouTube that would help us complete the specific actions that needed to be taken to create our poster.
Using the SONY A58
Last year during our AS level we used a small camcorder, this year we were given a very big upgrade, we had new SONY A58's to use to film our media product. The has nowhere near the amount of helpful distinctive features that the A58 has. The Sony A58 can shoot full-resolution 20.1 megapixel pictures at up to 8fps whilst maintaining continuous auto focus and auto exposure, a very fast fast rate for such an inexpensive camera. The A58 features an adjustable rear 2.7-inch LCD which is hinged at the bottom and can be tilted down by 45 degrees and up by 90 degrees. Note that you can't tilt the screen out to the side or fold it against the back of the camera to protect it. The A58 has a clever eye level sensor that switches off the rear screen's info display as you bring your eye close to the OLED viewfinder, plus a facility that automatically flips the same display through 90° should you turn the camera on its side to shoot in portrait fashion. Due to all these new features it suggests that you can get HQ footage, with ease and will make your final product look so much better, than if you were to use a camcorder.
