Over the past week we have started to film for our SWEDE, where we are replicating the trailer for The Gallows. We have picked this because we believe that the trailer's structure is simple and easy to recreate and since the film nods towards the paranormal genre, the trailer could inspire us for our own final trailer. The trailer starts pitch black and a green light over a double door is shown, in a way where someone is holding the camera. This happens for near enough half a second before the screen turns pitch black again. Then, again looking like he is holding the camera, a boy is shown from a low angle, with a horrified look on his face and turns his head to the right before going pitch black again. He then appears and puts his hand over the camera, which we have so far found it simple to replicate and overall conveys an effective opening for the trailer and intrigues the audience to watch more of it.
We have completed the initial storyboard for our SWEDE on The Gallows and we will start actual filming soon. In terms of the website, we have been able to film and complete our audience interviews which will help us for our overall audience research. We are also working on distribution and production company research as well as finding out top rated horrors, trends, box office and more. We have started to think about what existing trailer we should copy shot for shot (SWEDE) in preparation for the construction of our final trailer. We have analysed a few trailers but our final decision came to The Gallows as we thought it would be simple to copy and is set in a school setting which is beneficial to us. I have drawn up and annotated a basic storyboard following the event that happen in the film and picking out the most simple or important parts in the trailer, like for example the boy in the opening surrounded by darkness and the killer in the light with the boy getting hanged. In terms of the website, we have started to analyse various film magazine covers to find how they are attracted to the specific audience and how they promoted the films. We have also set up the rest of the pages in our audience and planning and will start to work on those after our swede is completed. |
