Movie Poster Analysis
SCREAM
The promotional movie poster for the slasher Scream is very simple yet very effective and captivating to the audience. This poster quite simply consists of a girl (presumably a character in the film) looking in fear towards the audience, as if the thing she is looking at is not revealed to us but could be considered the killer. The facial expression conveys fear and shock and the use of monochromatic colours signalises isolation and there is no hope for her left, which could bring suspense to the audience. The tagline at the top of the poster gives you a little bit of a hint in terms of what the film's plotline is and I think the second line "solving this mystery is going to be murder" is very effective as it could relate to the mystery of the killer's identity and solving it could put yourself and others at the risk of death. Since we are aiming for a paranormal genre of film, it wouldn't be beneficial for us to create our movie poster like this.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
The promotional movie poster for the first Paranormal Activity film is I believe the most effective out of the posters for the 5 films as the poster structure for subsequent films pretty much remain the same so this one stands out for originally being unique and fresh for the paranormal genre. In the almost center of the poster is a couple in there bedroom staring towards the right, like something is there but there isn't. However, the picture appears to be like it's on a camera (notice the slight fish eye lens) and the different shades of blue used support this and also gives the assumption that this is set during the night, which conforms the cliche of the scariest events happen at night. The top of the poster calls the film "one of the scariest movies of all time" which will attract the audience and therefore increase interest, along with the line at the end, "Nightmares are guaranteed". It's also worth noting that right above the main title (with a digitally red font) the line "what happens when you sleep?" could again link to the night setting of the picture as things that are unnatural seems to happen while the couple are sleeping. Overall, the poster is very captivating to the audience and is definitely the most effective out of the 5 posters for the franchise.

SINISTER
The promotional movie poster for Sinister I believe is the most effective out of the posters I've analysed. The main image in the center of the poster really stands out as it depicts a young girl dragging a trail of blood with her hand across a wall with the blood on the right making a face of presumably the killer in the film which shows both foreshadowing and mystery as the average person would not know who this character is at first glance. Another thing that would catch the audience's attention is the tagline under the title "once you see him, nothing can save you" as it creates fear like the killer is so powerful you're hopeless and nothing can come to your aid.
