THE GALLOWS
We have decided to use The Gallows as part of our SWEDE so our analysis of this trailer is mostly covered there. If found footage horror movies have taught us one thing, it's that snooping around haunted buildings at night is a supremely bad idea. If they've taught us two things, the other one is that snooping around a haunted building at night is no fun if you don't have a camera to record your last, gasping, regretful expression.
The first teaser for The Gallows was simple but effective: a girl bathed in red light, sobbing as she was stalked by an ominous figure, punctuated with quotes about how scary the movie is (from members of the audience at a preview screening, not reviews). The second trailer has now been released and establishes more the plot, though it should be readily familiar to anyone who's watched this kind of film before.

UNFRIENDED
Unfriended follows the plot of a girl called Laura Barns who had a video posted of her online. Due to the embarrassment and hate that followed, Laura committed suicide shortly after the upload. One year after this event, an unknown account invades a Skype conversation between people who knew her and demands it knows the identity of the video uploader or everyone dies. Obviously no one knows and in this trailer the account successfully kills all the people in the Skype conversation. This trailer starts on a bright note, with happy and jovial internet videos being shown (or flashed) in quick succession, showing how great the internet can be. However, the trailer states that your mistakes can remain online forever too and this is where things start to spiral downhill which gives a sudden twist and shock to the audience. The video of Laura Burns is shown and the comments about her follow, showing how bad this video's upload to the internet has affected Laura as anyone could see this, whether they know her in person or not. After that, a video of Laura shooting herself in a playground is shown, with the camera shaking upwards when she initially shoots and pans down when she is dead on the ground, here showing the brutality of the gunshot and how Laura was so confident in killing herself. By around here the trailer gets at its darkest.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The film appears to be a horror film as it follows the codes and conventions of a horror film. Firstly, the title is written in red which is iconic of blood- blood is associated with horror films .Secondly, we can see the setting is dark, misty and secluded which is associated with horror films as it suggests an unsafe environment as it is hard to see in it. Also the man running away suggests danger following the horror convention of there being victims. Thirdly, through editing tension and suspense is created by using slow motion and quick cuts. Tension and suspense is associated with horror films as horror films are intended to scare people. Finally, through diegetic and non-diegetic sound we can see it is a horror film. The non-diegetic sound, sounds like sawing which creates tension intended to put audiences at the edge of their seat. The music also dramatically stops to draw audience’s attention to the silence and keeps them engaged by having them thinking “what’s going to happen next?” Also through diegetic sound we can hear people screaming which suggests they’re scared, this is associated with horror films.
